"A WOMAN'S BOOK OF YOGA"

This book is a result of my association with Dr. Machelle Seibel, whose commitment to healing women reaches far beyond his medical office. After attending my Kundalini yoga classes and experienoing the benefits of yoga, meditation, and relaxation, Dr. Seibel was eager to incorporate these practices into his holistic approach to medicine. I believe this is truly a breakthrough project: a Western medical doctor working directly with a Yogini to bring the best of both worlds together for the benefit of all women.

Like many people, I was feeling the effects of stress that a busy professional life and family demands were placing on me. I realized that I couldn't change the pressures I was facing but I could change the way i reacted to them. It was at that time that Ihad the good fortune to hear of a yoga class being taught by Hari Kaur. Week after week i sat in her classes feeling the beneficial effects of yoga under her direction.

One day after class we struck up a conversation and I revealed that I was a doctor and that i was certain that many of my patients would benefit from yoga as well. Hari Kaur's approach was to use the healing power of yoga in combination with Western medicine, a philosophy we both shared.

Over the next weeks we spoke after class each week outlining a curriculum for women's health that would offer just that mixture - an hour of informal medical lectures offered sitting on yoga mats (which we called mat chats) followed by an hour of yoga geared to that particular life cycle issue.

Slowly, the origins of A Woman's Book of Yoga took place; a combination of eastern and western philosophy and practice that could offer women the best of both worlds and help them not only to get well but to stay well.
